Glider 2

High-Aspect Ratio Foils for Maximum Efficiency

2000, 1700, 1400: absolutely amazing wings for efficient lightwind wing foiling, pump foiling and riding baby bumps.

1100, 900, 750: smaller sizes add maneuverability, control and speed to that same concept of efficiency foiling.

WING DESIGN

Winning 2nd and 3rd at the GWA Cape Verde Wave event with Benoit Carpentier and Zane Schweitzer on one hand, then achieving 20 minutes of flatwater pumping with Steven VanBroekhoven on the other, the Glider is a favourite with our team for their efficiency and versatility.

For 2024, we wanted to improve the top end speed a touch and add more maneuverability without losing any of the low end power or the sheer efficiency that made the Glider series famous.

To achieve this, the front view went from flat to a very gentle moustache shape (A).

A gentle moustache front view has a shallow mono-concave in the centre section and gently raising wing tips. The mono-concave boosts take-off power while the gently raising wing tips allow the tips to breach the surface seamlessly without ventilation: you won't even feel the wing tips have breached the surface, letting you maintain total control.

We've also thinned the wing tips (B) to reduce drag generated from tip-vortices and to reduce the pressure difference between the upper and lower surfaces, enabling that magical seamless tip-breaching effect. Thinner tips also improve maneuverability when the tips travels at higher speeds than the centre section.

The Glider 2 1700 (C) includes the above upgrades plus a much higher aspect ratio, greatly boosting its overall efficiency when compared to the Glider 1 1700 it replaces.

A new Glider 2000 (D) is now also available - an incredible machine that Steven VanBroekhoven used to achieve a pump-foiling time of 20 minutes.

Note: when wing foiling with the Glider 2000 and 1700, because of the massive lift they generate, a 3˚ mast angle spacer is highly recommended.

TWO MAST OPTIONS FOR THE GLIDER 2:

Aluminium V8

The stiff and heavier mast option. At 2.3kg, this mast prevents the foil from floating, helping the board stay level and adding stability before take-off.

19mm thick and with thicker walls, the V8's extruded profile makes the mast extremely stiff. You get a rock-solid, stable feel in flight.

With a 3cm narrower chord than our previous V7 mast, the V8 offers more glide, less drag and a super-fast top-end speed.

The connection between mast and fuselage uses an new aluminium CNC-machined adapter for maximum connection stiffness.

Foam Core Carbon MkII

The fast, lightweight, maneuverable and most responsive mast, weighing in at 1.6kg. The MkII shape has a sharper leading edge, a sharper trailing edge and 1.5˚ fuselage-angle built-in.

The C300 Foam Core Construction is what makes this mast super light while the 15.2mm thickness at the narrowest point is what keeps the mast super stiff. The MkII Foam Core Carbon mast: the ultimate choice when you're looking for the optimal blend of weight, stiffness and speed.

MAST ANGLE SPACERS

A 1.5° mast angle spacer is supplied with each mast set and a 3° mast angle spacer is also available as an accessory item.

Use these spacers to lift the nose higher when flying, if the board feels it is pointing too far down.

THE QUICK LOCK II CONNECTION SYSTEM

2x STIFFER 2x STRONGER

In 2020, Starboard Foils introduced the quickest foil assembly system with Quick Lock.

For 2022 and continuing into 2023 and 2024, Quick Lock II offers 55% more thickness and a new Lock-Slot, making the front wing connection twice as stiff and twice as strong for impeccable control and flight stability.

WHAT MAKES IT SO STIFF?

The cross section of the front wing male ferrule is 55% thicker compared to the original Quick Lock: less twist = more control.

The tail wing section and the mast slot is the same as on the original Quick Lock fuselage, so masts and tail wings are cross-compatible.

The new Lock-Slot on the top adds an an extra mechanical locking point.

The new octagonal shape of the male ferrule, with flat sides and sharp corners, maximizes the interlocking surface areas.

DESIGN INNOVATION:

ADJUST YOUR FUSELAGE LENGTH

The Quick Lock II comes with 20mm spacers that allow you to extend the foil's wing-base by up to 40mm

Trimming Recommendations:

1 - No spacers Maximum maneuverability
2 - Tail spacer More flight stability, less maneuverability
3 - Front spacer More power and upwind drive
4 - Both spacers More power and maximum stability, minimum maneuverability

CUSTOMIZE YOUR FOIL

CHOPPING THE TAIL PIECE

Starboard Foils' unique Quick Lock system also allows you to reduce fuselage length by chopping down the tail piece.

Instead of buying an entirely new fuselage to gain reactivity, increase manoeuvrability or to quicken pumping cadence, simply check out this video to see how we take just a few minutes to customise tail wings to our individual styles.
